Brewers Win Championship Against Bandits 5-4 in Heated Pitching Duel

With the victory earlier in the day the Brewers (#3 seed) faced off against their rival Bandits (#1 seed) for the 2011 Southern Colorado NABA 18+AA Championship in a single elimination game.  This was a championship matchup that the entire league has been anticipating for the past 3 season, finally coming to to pass for the first time with the Brewers beating the Bombers in 2009 and the Athletics in 2010.  The Brewers / Bandits games are always close hard caught games with the 2 teams splitting the regular season meeting making the championship game the rubber match for the year.  The game features 2 stellar pitching performances by both teams starters, Phillips for the Brewers and Shepherd for the Bandits.  Shepherd, who formerly pitched independent ball kept the Brewers off balance with a devastating slider that was difficult for the Brewers batter to pick up.  For the Brewers, Phillips coming off his Sr. season at Gonzaga had a hot fast ball ranging form 90-93 MPH on the stadium radar gun pitching a no hitter into the bottom of the 7th.  Phillips collected his 2nd win of the season going 7 1/3 innings giving up only 2 hits 2 unearned runs 2 walks and striking out 10.  For the Bandits Shepherd collected the loss with an impressive 7 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits, 2 walks 2 earned runs and striking out 12.  McDonough pitched his 2nd save of the day going 1 2/3 giving up 1 earned run, 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 strike out to end the game.  At the plate hits were hard to come by, but when they did the Brewers tried to make them count.  F. Vaughn was the only Brewer to collect 2 hits in the game going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base, Frieske was 1 for 4 with a double and RBI and a run scored and Dreyer was 1 for 5 with a double, 2 runs, an RBI and a stole base,
