This Sunday the Brewers took on the 3-0 Rockhounds for soul possession of 1st place in the Southern Colorado NABA. It was a cold, rainy and snowy spring day with the Brewers giving the ball to Vandas for the start on the mound. Vandas battled the elements in the first as well as the Rockhound hitters having some issues with his control due to an extremely slick mound... giving up no hits or runs, but walking one and hitting one. The Brewers started the scoring in the bottom of the first, bringing home 3 runs after 2 walks and back to back doubles by Moran and K. Gossage. The Rockhounds then answered in the second plating 5 runs to take the lead on 2 hits, a walk and 2 hit batsman mostly due to Vandas skating around on the muddy mound. The Rockhouds help the Brewers scoreless in home half of the second and brought home 2 more in the third making it 3-7 with the Rockhounds in the lead. The umpires then discussed postponing the game due to the muddy conditions witnessing the Brewers pitcher Vandas sliding a good 6 inches on the mound when he was pitching... not wanting to get anyone hurt. The Rockhounds said they would only agree to end the game if we would agree to consider it a completed game after 2 innings giving the Rockhounds the win. Not willing to agree to those terms, the Brewers decided to make a pitching change and bring in Morran to finish the game. With the Brewers down 3-7, Morran proceeded to strike out the side. In the 4th, as the weather started to warm up so did the Brewers bats as they scored 5 runs on 3 hits capped off by a F. Vaughn Home Run giving the Brewres the lead 8-7. Moran was cruising on the mound until the 6th when the Rockhouds tied the game after a single and a double... But the inning was ended when Harvey of the Rockhounds tried to stretch his double into a triple... E. Gossage came up throwing and with no relay and on the fly threw him out at third from the left filed fence. The Brewers took back the lead in the bottom of the 6th with back to back hits by O'Brian and Moran. In the 7th, the Rockhounds when down without a fight with Moran striking out the side for the 3rd time on the day bringing the Brewers to bat. That's when the gates opened with the Brewres scoring 8 runs thanks to 7 straight hits including a 3 run Home Run by Goldberg making the score 17-8 Brewers. The game ended when Moran struck out 4 more batter in the 8th, with one of them reaching on a wild pitch getting Moran his 2nd win of the season going 6 inning giving up one run, 3 hits and striking out 16 (striking out the side 4 times). This 17-8 win moves the Brewers to 4-0 on the season holding on to first place in the Southern Colorado NABA.
